WHO WE ARE

Based at The Street, Scarborough’s premier community centre, Radio Scarborough has been delivering a community service to the Borough of Scarborough and beyond, since 2013.
We aim to be a genuine alternative to mainstream radio by reflecting day to day life, in the Borough of Scarborough. During weekdays, we broadcast a daytime service, to get you smiling through the day. Our emphasis is on quality rock/pop, giving way to a wide spectrum of music in the evenings, which covers many different genres including Classic Rock, Progressive, House, Trance, Metal, Folk, Soul & Northern, Blues, Loungecore, Jazz and World, with the odd bit of Classical and Electronica thrown in. This is interspersed with features, interviews and talk shows, which reflect what is going on, both in our borough and in the world at large.
Radio Scarborough has around fifty multi-talented volunteers, who all give their time freely, to promote the Borough of Scarborough and bring the community together. We are proud to offer free promotion for all bona fide charity and community events and organisations. We are grateful to our sponsors, who enable us to do this, through their generous support.
We encourage people from all walks of life to get in touch and tell us what they want to hear on the station and work closely with local community groups including Barrowcliff Big Local, Scarborough YMCA and Scarborough and Ryedale Stronger Communities. After a successful year in partnership with Scarborough RUFC, in our role as Matchday Media Partner, we are pleased to say that we will be expanding that partnership to include much more than live commentery from home games, which will obviously continue. Our Saturday Sport programme will also continue to bring you all the latest news and results from a wide range of other sporting events, happening in the borough.
Training is a big part of Radio Scarborough’s philosophy and we offer training/placements in Broadcasting Skills to numerous universities, colleges and other social groups, including foreign language students, spreading the name of The Borough of Scarborough across the world, an activity we consider vital, given the many beautiful coastal towns from Whitby to Filey and their status as seaside resorts.
